Whereas Gotham Metropolis felt like a spot out of time, the Metropolis of “Superman: The Animated Series” might move as up to date. The characters’ trend selections have been trendy and the artwork design had extra even lighting than in “Batman: The Animated Collection.” If something, “STAS” had a futuristic, sci-fi bent to it, particularly within the structure of Metropolis and in tales that includes robots and aliens. Naturally, science fiction higher suits Superman (who’s not from Earth himself) than it does Batman.
Bruce Timm elaborated on the logic behind this selection in his interview with Comic Book Resources:
“We figured it might be higher to do one thing more energizing, so [‘Superman’] integrated among the design parts from ‘BTAS,’ but in addition by setting it in a a lot much less retro world, with barely futuristic vehicles and extra trendy fashions and hairstyles, it gave it a little bit bit extra of a timeless really feel of its personal that did not look particularly tied to anyone period.”
Batman was caught prior to now whereas Superman regarded in direction of the longer term. That encapsulation of their characters is what guided the completely different seems of their respective animated reveals.
