JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel’s far-right nationwide safety minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, on Tuesday visited the compound that homes the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, a flashpoint holy website sacred to each Jews and Muslims, Israeli media reported.
The Ynet information web site carried photos of Ben-Gvir touring the positioning underneath heavy safety.
Israel’s opposition chief and former prime minister Yair Lapid had warned that such a go to by Ben-Gvir would spark violence.
On the compound, Islam’s third holiest website after Mecca and Medina and Judaism’s most sacred as vestige of its two historic temples, solely Muslim worship is allowed.
