Western Forest Merchandise has introduced that it’ll not restart its Alberni-Pacific Division (APD) facility in its present configuration and has established a multi-party working group to discover potential viable industrial manufacturing options for the power. The mill has been curtailed since fall 2022.
In 2022, Western, Tsawak-qin Forestry Restricted Partnership and Huu-ay-aht First Nations commissioned the Beck Group to take a look at long-term economically viable major manufacturing choices for APD. The report concludes the choices for APD are very restricted.
Over the following 90 days, the working group, which incorporates representatives from Western, the United Steelworkers union, Indigenous companions and contractually-aligned enterprise, will discover potential viable industrial manufacturing options for the location.
